Beautifully eerie and resonant cautionary tale about the dangers of pursuing crushes. Part of me can't help but think Grant did reciprocate Ben's feelings and this quite possibly have been an "initiation" of sorts despite the fact he was drugged and raped. That's my interpretation of the film.
