I was born in 1949, I was introduced to sex in 1957.

It was a different time them, there wasn't anyone to tell me that it was wrong.

REDSNOW, you don't state whether or not your early experiences were good or bad for you. If they were bad or unpleasant, my sympathies.

As stated below, mine started at 6 years of age when I had no concept of what sex actually was. All I knew was those early touchings were something that was nasty, but we liked it, so keep quiet about it and sneak and do it whenever. I don't remember a period when there wasn't some type of physical sexual contact sexual between someone else and myself, mainly boys but there were a few girls involved. Looking back, I have not one regret or feeling of shame or anger associated with any of those activities. Maybe it's because, fortunately for me, there were never any adults involved in my earlier experiences until I was 15 or 16 and the age difference was no more than 3 or 4 years and by that time, I already knew what felt good both physically and mentally and knew damned well what I wanted.

When I was a boy homosexuality was still illegal. The attitude was that as it was against the  law (both in the general society and the church) in just never happened that anyone (man or woman) would want sex with a child. As children we were always told that if we were frightened to seek out a reasonable adult and tell them, As most of the people that were abusing us WERE reasonable adults what could we do? My best friend told someone at our school that a teacher was making do things that he didn't like, it was my friend who got into trouble not the teacher. My friend was made to apologise to the teacher in front of the whole school. It was normal that if you were disciplined at school or even in the street, you would then get punished by your family when you got home.

Children had no rights.

We were not there.

It was a different time.

At least children today have a voice.

No longer can an adult say that you have to do what I say or your family will disown you.

Your precis is correct: no-one believed the child, everyone believed the priest / doctor / teacher; the personable and convincing pillars of a community were never doubted.

Now, there is reasonable doubt, there are data, and there is a greater awareness that it wasn't Stranger Danger, but danger from the family or the familiar.

A child betrayed becomes a vengeful adult. I would cross a busy road to kill a priest.

The kids of today ignore anyone who tells them it's wrong. "Sextortion" is on the increase among school children in the UK. Google it if you are unfamiliar with the term.

Haven't people been blackmailed over their sexual activities, taboo or not, since forever? I'm not saying it's right, but it sounds like a somewhat new name has been given to something old.

That's why kids shouldn't be allowed to have cell phones or be on social media until they are at least sixteen. Hopefully by then they will have at least developed some common sense.

I agree with age restrictions on social media. It has been proposed here, in Australia.

Ditto, similar story here. Born in 1951, introduced to sex in 1957. behind the yellow hibiscus bush, liked what I was doing. She was 9 or 10 and I still see her getting off the Catholic school bus in her blue and white Catholic school uniform. Of course I was smart enough to keep my mouth shut so we could continue the "nasty" touching of forbidden places.
