June 6th is the 80th anniversary of the landings at Normandy by Allied American and British forces.  Over 4,000 Allied troops were killed and 5,000 wounded on D-Day itself. An estimated 73,000 troops were killed and 153,00 more wounded in the ensuing battles. Take a moment to remember their sacrifices.

Mi abuelo era demasiado joven para la Primera Guerra Mundial pero demasiado mayor para la Segunda Guerra Mundial.

I never forget Memorial Day or D-Day and the sacrifices that were made by all in that war, not just at Normandy but both the European and Pacific theatres. I think of the sacrifices my dad made which included the loss of the very tips of 2 fingers on his left hand while loading a gun for Naval shore bombardment, or the frequent dreams that the Germans were shooting at him which lasted till his dying day, none of that stopped him. He enlisted eight months to the day before Pearl Harbor and served for 31 years. Today he would be so ashamed of how the very ideology behind the war in Europe has crept into the fabric of this country and been defined by so many as part of being a good American. I miss him but am happy for him that he isn't here to be pained by what he would see. This past April 7th would have been his 100th birthday.

Donald tRump once called all the American soldiers buried in Normandy who were killed that day "suckers and losers". Remember that come election day.
