NATIONAL PEARL HARBOR REMEMBRANCE DAY
December 7th--National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. American flags should be flown at half staff until sunset in honor of those who lost their lives in the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. All of those who died, were injured and lost their loved ones deserve a moment of reflection on our part!
May God rest their brave souls in peace and teach us the way to keep America free.
RIP
I can clearly remember when there was no Memorial for the USS Arizona. I can also vividly remember the collection cans being passed around the classroom for a week when I was in 3rd or 4th grade at Pear Harbour Kai Elementary School. The cans had the famous photo of the Arizona in flames and a slit in the top so us kids could put our nickels, dimes and quarters in to raise funds to build a Memorial for the Arizona. My dad joined the Navy on his 17th birthday in April 1941. My daughter has his logbook from that time and in it on December 7th he wrote "Japs bombed Pearl Harbour today. Leaving Mauritania heading for South Africa." That book has so many old black and whites of my dad and his crewmates, I often have wondered how many of them never survived until VJ Day. I'm so grateful my dad did.
what a beautiful history Steve!
