Artists get police protection after threats over bisexual Superman
TheĀ revealĀ ofĀ SupermanĀ Jon Kent ā aka the son of the original Superman, Clark ā being bisexual in comicĀ Superman: Son of Kal-ElĀ was met positively by fans across the globe. However, not everyone was pleased.
The comic artists behind the new comic that reveals Jon Kentās crush on cute, pink-haired reporter Jake Nakamura,Ā have been brought under police protectionĀ after āfansā made threats towards them.
An anonymous, law enforcement source said that āLAPD officers were recently dispatched to patrol the homes of some of the illustrators/production staffers who created the latest iteration ofĀ Supermanā in order to offer extra protection and āmake sure that things donāt escalate.ā The same source also stated that it isnāt just the personal homes of these comic artists that are being protected by LAPD officers, but the studio as well. While queer representation and inclusion of marginalized identities is improving within the comics world, its inclusion hasnāt been met with open arms by everyone. Only last week didĀ Gabe Eltaeb, a colourist that was part ofĀ Superman: Son of Kal-ElĀ quit his job at DC Comics due to a change in Supermanās motto to convey the inclusivity behind the S symbol. And then thereās ComicsGateā¦ Yuck.
Even so, that hasnāt stopped comics from having some amazing storylines and the new issue of theĀ SupermanĀ comic has already proved to be a big hit, with the issue already having gained anĀ āunprecedentedāĀ number of purchases already.Ā Superman: Son of Kal-El #5Ā will officially release on November 9th.
